Scott Lake Lodge - Index Scott Lake Lodge - report - IndexSo that’s the big picture of the 2007 season. There was a dazzling
array of unforgettable personal angling experiences. For
starters there were 1650 “that’s a trophy” adrenaline moments
experienced by the 431 Scott anglers. And that doesn’t include
of course all the “big ones that got away”. The beauty of those
fish is their elasticity—they can be as big as the angler wants.
This season had a lot of really big fish that did not get away.
Ask Jim Klos, Martin Long or Patrick Takats how a fat, four foot
long pike feels. Mary Smith, Greg Schlitz and Bill Gray landed
monsters just one inch shy of four feet. We had 35 anglers take
pike over 45", the measure of a pike of a lifetime. We had lots of
long fish filling the 42" screen on the LCD television that gives
us the “fish du jour” every night after dinner. No fish all season
filled the screen better though than the massive 45.5" lake trout
caught by George Bandow who was jigging with fairly light tackle
at the time. There were several giant trout, or small pigs, just
under that size. Jon Barlow, Michel Ringuet and Michael Sanders
all broke the 45" mark, all mega-trophies. Grayling are the third
species holding up our Triple Trophy Crown, the Stanley Crown
of fishing as we modestly call it. We had three fish just under
20", caught by Doc Bradford, Garth Olds and Mike Graf. We
are considering an asterisk for the Doc fish. He did do his own
measuring so it could have been over 20" or maybe. . . .

Catching just one huge fish may well be luck. Catching three
huge fish is probably more luck combined with some solid fishing
skill. In our annual contest for the biggest fish in all three species,
we had a real horserace with quite a cluster at the top. Jim
Landherr rode a big trout to get to 104.5 total inches while Patrick
Takats rode his big 48" pike to get to the same number. So our #1
on the Crown is a tie with Jim and Patrick. The second highest
number at 103.5 was shared by Bruce Kozlowski and Mike Rogers
and the third highest score at 103 had a three way tie with Dave
Baum, Heather Cross and Paul Turner. We will have to squeeze all
seven names on the plaque, but all deserve recognition. Those are
all magnificent angling achievements.
